🗺️ Where Is Westport?

Westport is a charming town located in County Mayo, on the west coast of Ireland. It sits at the south-east corner of Clew Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. Westport is easily accessible and serves as an ideal base for exploring the Wild Atlantic Way.

The town itself is a designated heritage town, celebrated for its unique Georgian architectural style and tree-lined promenades known as The Mall, which follow the Carrow Beg river.

This award-winning 42km (26 miles) off-road cycling and walking trail follows the route of the historic Westport to Achill railway line. It's a fantastic way to experience the stunning scenery of County Mayo, passing through charming villages, along the coast, and offering incredible views. Bike hire is readily available in Westport.

Easily the most famous of Westport’s pubs, Matt Molloy’s is synonymous with live traditional Irish music, often featuring sessions seven nights a week. Owned by the flutist of the famous Irish trad band "The Chieftains", it’s a must-visit for an energetic and authentic Irish pub experience.

The Porter House

Next door to Matt Molloy’s, The Porter House also hosts live music seven nights a week. It provides a slightly less manic atmosphere with ample seating and a heated beer garden, making it a great alternative for enjoying traditional tunes.

Cobbler’s Bar

Cobbler’s Bar in Westport, part of The Wyatt Hotel, is a lively gastro-pub with hearty food, craft beers, and a welcoming atmosphere. Known for live music, especially its Sunday trad session, it’s a popular spot for both locals and visitors.
