Vagabond Tours founder, Rob Rankin, wanted to take further action to promote responsible tourism practises in Ireland. He also saw a commercial opportunity to deliver top quality training and certification.

Rob Rankin and Larry Coady of Vagabond Tours accept Eco Tourism Gold Level Certificate from Mary Mulvey of Eco Tourism Ireland

In 2019, Rob purchased Greenbox Consulting Limited, trading as Ecotourism Ireland, with the long terms goals of widening the scope of ecotourism training and certification across the Irish tourism sector.

What does Ecotourism Ireland do?

Ecotourism Ireland aims to stimulate the development of ecotourism countrywide.

The organisation developed an ecotourism quality label. The goals of this label are:

  • to stimulate the development of new ecotourism experiences in Ireland;
  • defend the ethical values of existing ecotourism operators;
  • guide visitors travel choices and help them to choose promoters of ecotourism products and the experiences they have on offer.

Rob says...

"I'm delighted that Mary Mulvey, the driving force behind Ecotourism Ireland, is very much part of our future plans."

Ecotourism Ireland will be run as a completely separate entity from Vagabond Tours.
